DUI driver hospitalized after plowing into Glen Avon business

GLEN AVON — An alleged drunk driver was hospitalized after losing control of his vehicle and crashing into a business early Saturday morning, Dec. 7. The collision, which left the business heavily damaged and temporarily unusable, happened at Magic Cuts Barber Shop on the 9800 block of Mission Blvd., in the community of Glen Avon.

Deputies assigned to the Jurupa Valley Sheriff’s Station, along with Cal Fire Riverside County Fire and AMR personnel, were dispatched to the location around 2:15 a.m., after receiving reports of a pickup truck that had crashed into a business, Riverside Sheriff’s Corporal J. Herington reported after the crash and arrest.

When officials arrived they reported finding a silver, full-size Ford pickup truck that had crashed through the front of the business.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, later identified as Cosme Ibarra-Salazar 26, of Jurupa Valley, was determined to be under the influence and was transported to an area hospital with minor, non-life threatening injuries, according to Herington. He was later released to hospital staff for further treatment and charges are expected to be filed against him after he is medically cleared and discharged.

During their subsequent investigation, deputies determined Salazar had been traveling northbound Mission Blvd. when he began swerving across all lanes and crossing into oncoming traffic.

“Based on his level of impairment, he lost control and crashed into the front of the closed business causing significant damage to his vehicle and structural damage to the business,” explained Herington.

The barber shop was expected to remain closed for an extended period while repairs are made.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Trevor has been married for more than 29 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 16 grandchildren.
