Man arrested after deadly shooting at Redding motel
REDDING — Authorities investigating the fatal shooting of a guest staying at a Redding motel early this morning, Saturday, Dec. 21, say they arrested a Hollister man they allege shot and killed the person he claimed was his friend.

City of Redding Police and Fire Departments, along with other emergency personnel, were dispatched to Motel 6 on Hilltop Dr. shortly before 1 a.m., after a man called 911 and reported a shooting, Redding Police Sgt. Brian Torum reported after the shooting and arrest.
Official radio traffic at the time indicated the man told SHASCOM emergency dispatchers he and two other men were inside a room at the motel when “a gun went off”. The 911 caller also reported that his friend had been struck in the right upper chest.
Officers raced to the scene of the shooting, with the first officer arriving less than one minute after the call was dispatched.

Officers quickly located and detained the alleged shooter, later identified as Gregory Bradford, 30, of Hollister, before finding the shooting victim inside one of the motel’s rooms.
The victim was suffering from a single gunshot wound, according to Torum
Paramedics treated the victim at the scene before rushing him to Mercy Medical Center in Redding, where he later succumbed to his injury and was pronounced deceased by hospital staff.
The victim’s name has not been released, pending notification of the man’s family.
During their subsequent investigation, officers learned the victim was staying at the motel with Bradford and another man.

According to Torum, while the men were in the motel room, Bradford “was manipulating a loaded firearm and pulled the trigger in a negligent manner.” Bradford’s friend was struck in the upper chest when the gun discharged.
“Evidence obtained during the investigation revealed Bradford discharged the firearm in a grossly negligent manner causing death,” the Sgt. continued.
Based on their investigation, officers arrested Bradford and he was booked into Shasta County Jail in Redding on charges related to the deadly shooting.
