Drugs, weapons, stolen property uncovered at Redding “problem house”

REDDING — Authorities say a month-long investigation into a known “problem residence” in Redding led to a search warrant being served at the home yesterday, Feb. 6. Thursday’s warrant resulted in the discovery and seizure of illegal drugs, weapons, ammunition, stolen property, and more, according to officials. Two men were arrested as a result of the warrant, which was served at a private residence on the 1400 block of Atajo Court, southeast of Victor Ave. and Old Alturas Rd.

Over the last month, Redding PD’s Neighborhood Police Unit began investigating a “problem residence”, Redding Police Sgt. Rob Peterson said after the warrant service and arrests.

Based on their lengthy investigation, officers from Redding PD’s Neighborhood Police Unit, with the assistance of the Shasta Interagency Narcotics Task Force, served a search warrant at the home.

Redding PD officers and Shasta Interagency Narcotics Task Force members swarmed a Redding home yesterday where they served a search warrant. The warrant service resulted in the recovery of weapons, drugs, and stolen property.

While searching the residence, officers discovered cocaine, concentrated cannabis, and a large amount of U.S currency. Officers also located two SKS style rifles, two handguns, and ammunition. Officers also recovered an illegally modified, short barreled, pistol grip shotgun, according to Peterson.

The shotgun was later determined to have been stolen during a 2013 residential burglary.

Based on their findings, officers arrested Jesse Custer, 28, and Daveiontay Norwood, 27. Both men live in Redding and were contacted at the residence where the warrant was served.

After his arrest Custer was booked into Shasta County Jail in Redding on suspicion of possession for sale of cocaine, possession for sale of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance while armed, illegal possession of an assault rifle, possession of a short barrel rifle, and possession of stolen property.

Norwood was booked into Shasta County Jail on suspicion of being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm and ammunition, and possession of the illegally modified shotgun. He was also booked on two outstanding warrants for failing to appear court on other charges, including one felony and one misdemeanor.

Jail records indicate Custer is no longer in custody, while Norwood remains in jail in lieu of $30,000 bail.

He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 29 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 16 grandchildren.
