Woman, 19, ID’d after deadly Shasta Lake rollover crash

SHASTA LAKE — Officials investigating the traffic-related death of a woman whose wrecked and overturned car was found in a tree grove along Interstate 5 near Shasta Dam Boulevard last Sunday morning have identified the victim who died in the crash.

Shasta County Chief Deputy Coroner Lt. Gunsauls today publicly identified 19-year-old, Nevaeh Marie Hopman of Redding, as the victim who died at the scene of the solo-vehicle crash.

“The decedent’s next-of-kin has been notified and a postmortem examination has been
scheduled,” Gunsauls explained; saying, “The case remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.”

SHASTA LAKE, Calif. — Officials are investigating after a 19-year-old woman was killed in a rollover crash in Shasta Lake early Sunday morning, March 1. The deadly wreck, which was spotted by a passing motorist, happened on northbound Interstate 5 near Shasta Dam Boulevard.

CHP and other emergency personnel were first alerted to the fatal accident shortly before 5:30 a.m., after a motorist called 911 to report spotting a white, 2002 Dodge Neon in a grove of trees off I-5 with its lights on.

Officials who responded to the scene reported finding a small passenger car that appeared to have rolled over several times, causing significant damage on the driver’s side of the vehicle.

Firefighters soon found a 19-year-old woman, who was the driver and sole occupant of the car, inside the mangled wreckage of the vehicle. She had already passed away and was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to CHP, who reported the victim had been wearing her seat belt when the accident occurred.

The victim’s name has not been released, pending notification of her family.

Grief-stricken friends of the victim later said the woman killed in the accident had been driving home after spending the day with them at their house.

It was not immediately known if alcohol or drug intoxication were factors in the deadly crash, which is being investigated by CHP.

Contacted for more information about the accident, CHP reported the crash investigation was active and ongoing and officials had no other details to release at the time.

Trevor has been married for more than 29 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 16 grandchildren.
