Burney parolee in stolen car nabbed after pursuit, crash

BURNEY — A parolee driving a stolen car who fled from deputies was arrested after crashing and fleeing on foot last night, Thursday, March 19.

Despite five prior felony convictions, the Burney resident arrested after the pursuit was found to be in possession of pepper spray, in violation of his parole terms.

Deputies from the Shasta County Sheriff’s Burney Sub-Station spotted a stolen white Honda Accord just before 9:30 p.m., according to Shasta County Sheriff’s Sgt. Tim Estes, who said the vehicle had been reported stolen from the Redding area.

When deputies attempted to perform a traffic enforcement stop on the stolen car the driver, who was later identified as 24-year-old, Blaine Lee McKinney, of Burney, refused to yield and fled northbound on Shasta St. from Main St., toward the Burney sub-station.

As McKinney attempted to elude deputies he sped onto a dirt road behind the sheriff’s station where he eventually crashed into a ditch, disabling the stolen Honda.

After crashing, McKinney – who was the sole occupant of the vehicle – immediately fled the area on foot but was detained by deputies without incident a short time later, according to Estes.

After apprehending McKinney, deputies found the parolee was in possession of Red Pepper Defense Gel, in violation of the terms of his parole for a prior vehicle theft conviction.

McKinney was later transported to the Shasta County Jail where he was booked on suspicion of vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of tear gas, felony evading, hit and run, and violation of parole. Online jail records indicate McKinney remains in custody in lieu of $35,000 bail.

He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 29 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 16 grandchildren.
