One dead after Jurupa Valley collision
JURUPA VALLEY, Calif. — Authorities are investigating a two-vehicle crash in Jurupa Valley that left one person dead Tuesday afternoon, July 14.
The fatal collision happened at the intersection of Mission Blvd. and Wineville Rd.

Deputies from the Jurupa Valley Station, along with Cal Fire-Riverside and AMR, were dispatched to the scene about 12:50 p.m., after receiving reports of a traffic collision involving two vehicles, Riverside County Sheriff’s Sgt. Luke Torres later said of the deadly accident.
When officials arrived they found one of the involved drivers, an adult male, who sustained major traumatic injuries in one of the vehicles.
Despite life-saving measures provided by responding paramedics, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away at the scene.
Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner officials have since identified the victim as Jose Ortega Jr., 59, of San Bernardino. A coroner’s release indicated he was pronounced deceased by medical personnel at 1:23 p.m.
“The driver of the other vehicle did not sustain any injuries, remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation,” explained Torres; saying, “There were no passengers in either vehicle.”

Based on the circumstances, members of the Jurupa Valley Station’s Traffic Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.
Neither alcohol or drug intoxication are believed to have been factors in the collision, according to Torres.

Trevor’s assignments included Corrections, Patrol, DUI Enforcement, Boat and Personal Water-Craft based Lake Patrol, Off-Road Vehicle Enforcement, Problem Oriented Policing Team, and Personnel/Background Investigations. He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.
Trevor has been married for more than 29 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 16 grandchildren.
