Deputies from the San Jacinto Sheriff’s Station, along with Cal Fire – Riverside and other emergency personnel, were dispatched to the crash at 2:37 p.m., after receiving reports of the collision, Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Mike Heath later said of the deadly accident.
When deputies and other officials arrived at the scene they found two wrecked vehicles blocking the roadway, according to Heath.
According to a Cal Fire social media release, one of the victims sustained critical injuries while two others suffered injuries later described as minor.
While firefighters began a cut and rescue operation to free the trapped and injured occupant, deputies closed off the roadway and began diverting traffic away from the scene onto other area streets.
Despite life-saving measures, one of the victims succumbed to his injuries and passed away at the scene. The victim’s name has not been released, pending further investigation and notification of the man’s family.
One of the other victims was transported to a local hospital for further treatment of unspecified injuries. No further information was available regarding the third victim involved in the crash.
Based on the circumstances, members of the San Jacinto Station’s Collision Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.
“They are conducting a full investigation to determine the cause of the collision,” said Heath; who added, “Currently, it is not believed drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision.”
