No injuries reported after early morning Hemet fire

HEMET, Calif. — Thanks to an elderly couple’s smoke detectors, no injuries were reported after an early morning fire ripped through a Hemet home’s garage Friday Nov. 27.

The fire, which destroyed the garage and two vehicles, happened in the 3000 block of Red Rubin Court, southeast of W. Stetson and S. Sanderson avenues, and west of Seven Hills Golf Club.

City of Hemet Fire and Police Departments were alerted to the blaze around 12:40 a.m., and firefighters responded with three engines and a ladder company.

Officers were first to arrive at the scene and reported finding a fully-involved garage fire within a two-story home on the small cul-de-sac.

As firefighters began arriving, officers were seen evacuating the involved residence as well as surrounding homes.

Firefighters at the scene set up for an aggressive fire attack, and quickly had the blaze knocked down and contained before any other nearby homes could be damaged.

Although the fire was primarily contained to the involved home’s garage, the residence sustained heavy smoke damage throughout, according to a firefighter at the scene.

One vehicle that was parked inside the garage was destroyed by the fire, while another that was parked in the driveway just outside the garage sustained heavy front-end damage from the blaze.

The elderly couple who live at the residence later said they were asleep when they were alerted to the fire by their home’s smoke detectors.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
