Anza man ID’d after fatal Hwy 371 collision

ANZA, Calif. — Authorities have released the name of a man who died after a two-vehicle traffic collision that happened at the intersection of Highway 371 and Howard Road in Anza late Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 2.

California Highway Patrol, Cal Fire-Riverside and AMR were dispatched to the scene around 4:10 p.m., according to a Cal Fire release.

When firefighters arrived they reported one victim was trapped inside their vehicle and required extrication.

Despite life-saving efforts, one of the victims succumbed to their injuries and passed away at the scene.

Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner officials have since identified James Scott, 61, of Anza, as the man killed in the collision. A coroner’s release indicated Scott was pronounced deceased at 4:35 p.m.

Officials have not specified if anyone else was injured in the collision.

CHP is continuing to investigate the cause of this crash and has not provided any further details.

Trevor’s assignments included Corrections, Patrol, DUI Enforcement, Boat and Personal Water-Craft based Lake Patrol, Off-Road Vehicle Enforcement, Problem Oriented Policing Team, and Personnel/Background Investigations. He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 30 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 18 grandchildren.
