SAN JACINTO, Calif. — Authorities say a DUI-related pursuit that began in San Jacinto ended in Hemet when the intoxicated driver crashed into a sign outside an apartment complex and was taken into custody yesterday afternoon, Wednesday, Jan. 20.

Yesterday’s pursuit began around 4:45 p.m., when deputies from the San Jacinto Sheriff’s Station initiated a vehicle pursuit on a suspected impaired driver, Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Brad Farwell later reported.

Despite the deputies’ lights and sirens, the driver and sole occupant, since identified as Daniel George Hardesty, a 27-year-old Colorado resident, fled in an attempt to evade officials.

During the chase, Hardesty “drove in a reckless manner, including running stop signs and driving into oncoming traffic,” explained Farwell.

As the chase continued, Hardesty eventually lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a street sign in the 900 block of East Florida Avenue, near State Street, in Hemet.

He was immediately taken into custody after the crash, said Farwell.

Hardesty was later booked into the Larry Smith Correctional Facility in Banning on suspicion of felony evading and driving under the influence.

Online jail records indicate Hardesty remains in custody in lieu of $100,000 bail or bond and is scheduled to be arraigned at an unspecified court on Jan. 22.
