Deputies from the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station, along with Cal Fire-Riverside and other emergency personnel, responded to the intersection of Alessandro Boulevard and Perris Boulevard about 11:17 p.m. after receiving the report of a major injury collision, Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Robert Grmusha.

When officials arrived they found two wrecked vehicles, described as a silver Nissan Altima and white Toyota Corolla.

The Nissan’s driver had suffered critical, life-threatening injuries, and had already passed away at the scene. The driver’s name has not been released pending further investigation and notification of their family.

The sole passenger of the Nissan and the driver of the Toyota were transported to a local area hospital for the treatment of major, but non-life-threatening injuries sustained during the collision.

The Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station Traffic Collision Reconstruction Team responded to the location and assumed the investigation.

During their subsequent investigation, deputies determined the Nissan was traveling eastbound on Alessandro Boulevard “at a high rate of speed” when it failed to stop for a red signal light, said Grmusha.

As the Nissan entered the intersection, it smashed into the Toyota, which had been making a left turn from westbound Alessandro Boulevard onto southbound Perris Boulevard.

“The impact caused the Toyota to spin-out, as the Nissan rolled over onto its roof before coming to rest within the eastbound lanes of Alessandro Boulevard,” Grmusha explained; adding,” At this time, it remains unknown if alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in the collision.”
