Anderson traffic stop leads to arrest of Arizona felon – Firearm, drugs seized

ANDERSON, Calif. — Authorities say an Arizona man was arrested after a traffic led to the discovery of a firearm and small amount of methamphetamine Monday, May 24.

Yesterday’s arrest happened after a City of Anderson police officer observed a vehicle speeding through he Redding-Anderson Six Lane Construction area, Anderson PD has since reported. The officer determined the driver was traveling at an estimated 80 mph in the 55 mph zone.

When officers contacted the driver, 32-year-old, Ernesto Garcia, he was found to have no drivers license or other form of identification in his possession and officers detained him without incident.

“When asked if he had any weapons on his person Garcia admitted to having a firearm in his waistband,” said APD officials. “The firearm was found to not be registered to Garcia, a convicted felon, and was found to have a threaded barrel and to be loaded with live ammunition.”

During a subsequent search of Garcia’s vehicle officers discovered a small amount of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, at which time Garcia was arrested.

Garcia was later booked into the Shasta County Jail in Redding on suspicion of 

possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon, possession of a firearm with a controlled substance, unlawfully concealing a firearm, possession of a controlled substance. possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of an assault weapon, due to the threaded barrel.

Online jail records indicate he remains in custody in lieu of $25,000 bail or bond.

During his time with the sheriff’s department, Trevor worked at several different stations; including Robert Presley Detention Center, Southwest Station in Temecula, Hemet/Valle Vista Station, Ben Clark Public Safety Training Center, and Lake Elsinore Station; along with other locations.

Trevor’s assignments included Corrections, Patrol, DUI Enforcement, Boat and Personal Water-Craft based Lake Patrol, Off-Road Vehicle Enforcement, Problem Oriented Policing Team, and Personnel/Background Investigations. He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 30 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 18 grandchildren.
