MORENO VALLEY, Calif. — Officials today announced the arrest of a Moreno Valley woman in connection with a deadly crash that killed a Winchester teen Wednesday afternoon, May 26.

The fatal accident occurred at the intersection of Day Street and Bay Avenue, according to officials; who previously said the driver who caused the crash, who was out of jail on bail regarding an unrelated case, had been speeding and ran a posted stop sign just before the collision.

Although Sheriff’s officials have not specified what led to the fatal collision, witness reports at the time indicated that the woman who caused the crash, Shady Pillar Torres, 25, had possibly been involved in a domestic argument with a man she was involved in a relationship with.

Though not confirmed by law enforcement officials, witnesses to the crash said the day of the crash that Torres was in her white, 2014 Toyota Corolla and was chasing a man in another vehicle when she ran a stop sign at the intersection and plowed broadside into a vehicle driven by Logan Edwards, 17, of Winchester.

The tremendous impact sent both cars careening into a nearby wrought iron fence, killing the victim instantly. A coroner’s release indicated the teen was pronounced deceased at the scene at 3:15 p.m., when paramedics arrived.

In today’s update, Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant R. Grmusha said, “Based on information revealed during the investigation, Torres was arrested on June 2.

Toerrs was later booked into custody at the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside County on suspicion of second-degree murder, felony child endangerment, and committing a felony while out on bail in an unrelated case.

Online jail records indicate she remains in custody in lieu of $1.5 million bail or bond and is scheduled to be arraigned at the Riverside Hall of Justice tomorrow, June 4th.

Original Story: Winchester teen killed in Moreno Valley crash

MORENO VALLEY, CALIF. — Authorities say a Winchester teen was killed in a two-vehicle traffic collision in Moreno Valley Wednesday afternoon, May 26. The fatal accident occurred at the intersection of Day Street and Bay Avenue, according to officials; who have said the driver who caused the crash had been speeding and ran a posted stop sign just before the collision.

Yesterday’s deadly accident followed on the heels of another fatal crash that happened just six miles away the previous evening. That fiery wreck killed a motorist who ran a red light and crashed into another car, whose driver, a Moreno Valley man, was later arrested for fleeing the scene of the crash that he did not even cause.

Deputies from the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station, along with Cal Fire-Riverside and other emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene shortly after 3 p.m. after receiving reports of a major injury traffic collision with entrapment, Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant R. Grmusha later said of the fatal collision.

When deputies arrived at the scene they found two vehicles, described as a silver, 2012 Ford Edge and white, 2014 Toyota Corolla, with a total of two victims.

The driver of the Ford was found to have sustained major injuries and was trapped in the wreckage of his vehicle. Despite life-saving efforts he succumbed to his injuries and passed away at the scene.

Riverside Sheriff-Coroner officials have since identified Logan Edwards, 17, of Winchester, as the victim killed in the collision. A coroner’s release indicated he was pronounced deceased within minutes of emergency personnel arriving at the scene, at 3:15 p.m.

The other driver, whose name has not been released, was found to have moderate injuries and was transported to a local area hospital for further treatment.

Based on the circumstances, members of the Moreno Valley Sheriff Station’s Traffic Collision Reconstruction Team responded to the location and assumed the investigation.

During their subsequent investigation, Traffic Team members determined the the Toyota was traveling eastbound on Bay Avenue, approaching Day Street, at a high rate of speed, according to Grmusha.

“When the Toyota entered the intersection, it failed to stop for a posted stop sign and struck the Ford’s driver’s side, causing it to collide with a nearby residential fence,” the Sergeant explained.

While investigating the cause of the crash, officials called for the temporary closure of Day Street, between Brill Road and Sherman Avenue, and Bay Avenue, east and west of the intersection.

It was not immediately known if drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the collision, according to Grmusha; who said the Sheriff’s investigation is ongoing.
