Man fatally shot at Riverside park – 4, including 3 minors, arrested

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Authorities say four people, including three juveniles, were arrested after a man was fatally shot at a Riverside park Wednesday night, June 9th.

The deadly shooting happened at Bryant Park, located at 7950 Philbin Avenue, according to Riverside Police Department officials who have since said the victim was robbed and shot during what appeared to be a gang-related attack.

City of Riverside police officers were dispatched to the scene around 8 p.m. after receiving reports of a shooting, Officer Ryan Railsback later explained.

“It appears the victim and several teenagers were arguing when one of them produced a gun and shot the victim,” Railsback explained.

The victim, who appeared to be in his 40s, was rushed to an area hospital where despite life-saving efforts, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away, according to Raislback. His name has not yet been released.

Video filmed from across the street captured moments after the deadly shooting, which was later shared to social media, showed groups of juveniles running in all directions from the area of the park’s baseball diamond.

Within minutes of the dispatched call, patrol officers, with assistance from the Department’s SWAT Team and Aviation Crew, had swarmed into the area and begun combing nearby streets for the suspects, who were seen running from the area in the immediate aftermath of the deadly shooting.

Officials quickly began rounding up potential suspects, ultimately arresting three juveniles and one adult.

Although officials have not released the adult’s name, online jail records show that 18-year-old Joseph Lee Auciello was arrested at 8:10 p.m. in the area of Challen Avenue and Curran Drive, several blocks from the scene of the shooting.

He was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside on suspicion of first-degree murder, second-degree robbery and a gang membership enhancement. He remains in custody where he is being held without bail and his first court appearance at the Riverside Hall Of Justice is scheduled for June 11.
