Motorcyclist, 51, ID’d after fatal Riverside crash
RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Authorities say a motorcyclist was killed in a solo-vehicle traffic accident in Riverside Sunday afternoon, June 13th. Excessive speed is considered to be a contributing factor in the fatal accident, which happened on the SR-60 eastbound to SR-91 westbound transition road.

CHP – Riverside Area units and other emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene around 4:50 p.m. after receiving reports of a motorcycle crash with rider down in the roadway.
When officials arrived they found a blue, 2016 Harley Davidson Road Glide on its left side, blocking the roadway. The downed rider was found unresponsive nearby.
Officials determined the rider had succumbed to his injuries and passed away at the scene.
Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner officials have since identified 51-year-old, Derek Escarcega, of Riverside, as the man killed in the crash. A coroner’s release indicated he was pronounced deceased at 4:58 p.m.
CHP’s preliminary investigation suggests Escarcega was riding his Harley Davidson eastbound on SR-60 toward the westbound SR-91 transition road, at an undetermined high rate of speed just moments before the accident.
“For reasons still under investigation, the rider of the Harley Davidson was unable to negotiate the turn in the roadway, causing the Harley Davison to collide into the guardrail and the rider to be ejected onto the roadway,” said CHP.
This is an active investigation and any witnesses who may have observed the fatal crash are encouraged to call the California Highway Patrol, Accident Investigation Unit at (951) 637-8000. Callers can refer to incident file number and can remain anonymous.
