Search for missing Cabazon man, 60, ends in tragedy – Homicide investigation now underway
CABAZON, Calif., — Authorities say a missing persons investigation involving a 60-year-old Cabazon man has transitioned into a murder investigation after the man’s lifeless body was discovered in an open desert area near a set of railroad tracks in Cabazon, between Almond and Olive streets.

Deputies assigned to the Cabazon Sheriff’s Station deputies began searching for 60-year-old, Ruben Garcia July 31, at 1:16 p.m., Riverside Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit Sergeant Ben Ramirez has since reported. Deputies learned Garcia was last seen July 29, in the area of Mission Street in Cabazon.
During their subsequent investigation, around 5:54 p.m., deputies found a deceased male in the open desert area south of the train tracks between Almond and Olive streets.
“The decedent had trauma to his body consistent with a homicide,” said Ramirez; adding, “The scene was secured, and the Central Homicide Unit responded and assumed the investigation.”
The Sheriff’s investigation is continuing and officials have said no further information will be released at this time.

During his time with the sheriff’s department, Trevor worked at several different stations; including Robert Presley Detention Center, Southwest Station in Temecula, Hemet/Valle Vista Station, Ben Clark Public Safety Training Center, and Lake Elsinore Station; along with other locations.
Trevor’s assignments included Corrections, Patrol, DUI Enforcement, Boat and Personal Water-Craft based Lake Patrol, Off-Road Vehicle Enforcement, Problem Oriented Policing Team, and Personnel/Background Investigations. He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.
Trevor has been married for more than 30 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 18 grandchildren.
