Redding man, 40, ID’d after fiery wreck in Redding

REDDING, Calif., — Coroner officials have released the name of a man who died after his vehicle was involved in a fiery crash at the I-5 and Hwy 44 interchange, Wednesday, Nov. 10. The victim’s vehicle, which first crashed into a guardrail before continuing down the embankment and coming to rest on Hilltop Drive where it burst into flames, was left unrecognizable after the deadly wreck.

With CHP’s accident investigation continuing, Shasta County Chief Deputy Coroner Lieutenant Stonehouse today identified 40-year-old, Matthew Douglas Goodman, of Redding, as the man killed in the solo-vehicle accident.

“The decedent’s next-of-kin has been notified and a postmortem examination has been completed,” said Stonehouse; adding, “This case remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.”

REDDING, Calif., — Authorities say a motorist was killed in a fiery solo-vehicle wreck in Redding late last night, Wednesday, Nov. 10. The fatal crash happened at the I-5 and Hwy 44 interchange, according to California Highway Patrol.

City of Redding and CHP officers, along with City of Redding Fire Department and other emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene around 11 p.m. after receiving reports of the traffic accident.

Callers reported the vehicle was engulfed in flames and it was not immediately known if the occupants from the vehicle had managed to escape.

Although firefighters made quick work extinguishing a vehicle blaze that erupted after a solo-vehicle crash in Redding last night, the driver and sole-occupant of the vehicle perished at the scene. KRCR images

When firefighters arrived they confirmed finding a vehicle fully engulfed in flames and set about extinguishing the blaze. Once the fire was knocked down, firefighters found the driver and sole occupant from the vehicle, described as a 2010 Buick, had perished in the blaze.

The victim’s name has not been released, pending positive identification and notification of the person’s family.

CHP has reported that the Buick was traveling northbound on Interstate 5 and was merging onto eastbound Highway 44 when it careened off the roadway.

The Buick then crashed into a guardrail before continuing down the embankment and coming to rest on Hilltop Drive where it burst into flames.

Although the crash occurred within the city of Redding, CHP is handling the fatal crash investigation because the accident began on the freeway.

CHP’s investigation is ongoing and officers have not yet ruled out alcohol or drug intoxication as possible contributing factors in the deadly crash.

Trevor has been married for more than 30 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 18 grandchildren.
