Shasta County Probation Officers responded to a private Old Shasta residence yesterday morning to conduct a probation compliance search on a subject currently on Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS) probation, Shasta County Probation Department reported last night.

As officers knocked on the front door of the residence, two subjects – including the target of their probation compliance check – fled out the back door of the residence.

A PRCS probation compliance check yesterday uncovered more than seven grams of fentanyl as well as a large quantity of drug-related paraphernalia. The compliance check resulted in two people arrested at the scene. Two other subjects, including the target of the compliance check, now face out-of-custody charges with the DA’s Office. Both were detained and a glass smoking device that the un-named targeted probationer tossed while attempting to flee from officers was recovered.

After detaining the two suspects who fled from the residence, two other subjects were found inside the home and were also detained for further investigation. One of those subjects, Hunter Elias Smith, 33, was determined to have a felony warrant and was consequently arrested.

While searching the home’s living room and kitchen, officials located glass smoking pipes and other drug paraphernalia used to ingest illegal substances.

One of the detained suspects, since identified by jail booking records as Dustin Kayle Becker, 32, was found to have 6.1 grams of suspected fentanyl in his pockets and officials arrested him.

Officers also located 1.1 grams of suspected fentanyl in the possession of one of the other detained suspects. That suspect was released at the scene, with charges to be filed out-of-custody for possession of a controlled substance, according to Probation officials.

The probationer who was the target of the compliance check was released on scene and a report will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office recommending he be charged with a felony count of maintaining a place where drugs are used or sold, and violation of probation.

Online jail records indicate that Becker and Smith were both released on their own recognizance within hours of being booked into jail and are no longer in custody.

Contacted this morning for more information about the suspect and target of the compliance check, a Shasta County Probation representative declined to provide the man’s name, saying she was unauthorized to release such information.
