City of Redding police and fire personnel were dispatched to the scene around 6:15 p.m. after receiving reports of a rollover traffic accident, Redding Police Corporal Wes Townsley has since said of the crash and subsequent arrest.
When officials arrived they found a 2004 Chevy truck laying on its driver side, with vehicle parts and debris scattered across the roadway. A light pole that was sheared off at its base was also down in the road, leaving the roundabout intersection impassable.

During their subsequent investigation the involved driver, Nathaniel Edwards, 23 years of Redding, was determined to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs and he was arrested at the scene.
According to Townsley, Edwards was traveling southbound on Shasta View approaching the roundabout at Inspiration place, when for unknown reasons, his pickup truck left the roadway just before the roundabout.
As the truck careened out of control, it smashed into a light pole, shearing it off at the base, and continued through the roundabout where it overturned at least one time, the Corporal explained.
Edwards was later booked into the Shasta County Jail in Redding on suspicion of DUI, but online jail records indicate he has since been released.
