REDDING, Calif., — Authorities say a home invasion robbery investigation has led to an officer-involved shooting that injured an armed and wanted parolee-at-large and left a police K-9 fighting for his life. The robbery occurred at a private residence in the 2000 block of Allegheny Drive early Monday morning, Dec. 13.

The subsequent officer-involved shooting happened two nights later during the attempted arrest of a Redding transient who was positively identified after a home invasion robbery that left an 80-year-old woman hospitalized, according to officials.

As reported by SCNS at the time, City of Redding police officers were dispatched to the victim’s residence around 7: 30 a.m. after an 80-year-old woman called 911 and reported being injured during a home invasion robbery, Redding Police Sergeant Rob Garnero said in an initial release regarding the violent encounter.

The victim, who was taken by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries during the robbery and attack, told officers she was at home when a cinder block was thrown through the back door of her residence.

According to the victim, a man since identified as 38-year-old Adam Garrett Parsons, a transient known to reside in the Redding area who is currently on parole for another burglary, entered her home and proceeded to violently assault her. He then stole her jewelry, purse, and vehicle before fleeing the scene in the victim’s silver 2016 Toyota RAV4.

“Parsons has a violent criminal history and a pattern of combative behavior toward officers during previous arrests,” Gareno explained; adding at the time that his whereabouts were unknown.

After the initial search for Parsons failed to uncover his whereabouts, Redding PD obtained an arrest warrant charging him with elder abuse, stalking, and robbery, Redding Police Sergeant Jon Sheldon has since reported.

During a Tuesday press conference, Redding Police Captain Ron Icely provided further information about the incidents, saying, “In comes, Parsons, strikes her in the face, knocks her down to the ground.”

“While she’s on the ground, he repeatedly strikes her in the head, demanding the keys to her vehicle,” Icely continued; adding, “(He) took everything she had.”

Parsons was still rummaging through the elderly and injured victim’s property when she managed to escape the home and call 911 from her neighbor’s residence.

As their search for Parsons continued, officers located the victim’s stolen and abandoned Toyota in the area of Prospectors Drive off of Canyon Road in south Redding.

Officers continued to follow leads and around midnight on Dec. 13th learned Parsons was possibly in the area of the Win-River Casino.

Officers who began surveilling the casino and surrounding area soon spotted the wanted felon in one of the casino’s parking lots and began coordinating resources to attempt to safely take him into custody.

“When Officers approached Parsons, he fled on foot and led officers to the rear of the casino,” Garnero explained; saying, “Due to the violent nature of the current charges combined with Parsons history of violence, officers deployed a Police K-9 to effect his arrest.”

“It was at this time that Parsons produced a handgun and engaged officers,” Garnero continued.

Within moments gunshots rang out, leaving both Parsons and the K-9 shot and injured.

“Parsons sustained gunshot wounds and officers were then able to take him into custody,” said Garnero. “Officers rendered medical aid on scene and summoned medical personnel. Medical personnel transported Parsons to a local area hospital where he remains in police custody and is in stable condition.”

The shot and injured K-9 was rushed to a local area veterinarian where he was listed in stable condition and as of Redding PD’s last update was awaiting advanced medical treatment.

Citing the early nature of their investigation, officials have not specified if the K-9 was shot by Parsons or one of the officers involved in the shooting and during yesterday’s press conference, Icely said the department’s investigation is active and ongoing.

Original Story: Elderly woman injured during Redding home invasion robbery – Suspect remains sought

REDDING, Calif., — Authorities say an elderly Redding woman was attacked and injured during a home invasion robbery early Monday morning, Dec. 13. Although the suspect – a wanted felon and parolee-at-large who had once helped the victim with some yard work at her home – has been positively identified, he has not yet been apprehended and remains sought.

City of Redding police officers were dispatched to the victim’s residence in the 2000 block of Allegheny Drive around 7: 30 a.m. after an 80-year-old woman called 911 and reported being injured during a home invasion robbery, Redding Police Sergeant Rob Garnero reported this evening.

The victim, who was taken by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries during the robbery and attack, told officers she was at home when a cinder block was thrown through the back door of her residence.

According to the victim, a man since identified as 38-year-old Adam Parsons, a transient known to reside in the Redding area, entered her home and proceeded to violently assault her. He then stole her jewelry, purse and vehicle before fleeing the scene in the victim’s silver 2016 Toyota RAV4.

The vehicle, which has since been listed as stolen, has a California license plate of 7SWA007.

As the robbery was continuing and Parsons was rummaging for items to steal, the victim, whose name has not been released due to safety concerns, was able to flee her residence to a neighboring home where she reported the violent home invasion robbery.

After learning that the suspect had performed yard work around the victim’s home about a year ago, he was quickly identified and officers began searching the area for the man.

“Parsons is currently on parole for burglary and has an existing warrant for a parole violation,” Garnero explained; adding, “Due to his involvement in this case, he is also wanted and has an active arrest warrant for home invasion robbery, burglary, assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment, stalking, elder abuse and grand theft auto.”

Due to several incidents and arrests involving firearms, including one recent arrest that occurred last October after Parsons fired a handgun during a Redding disturbance, officials have said he is considered to be armed and dangerous, urged to use caution if Parson’s is spotted and to not approach the man, but to immediately call 911.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation, or who knows Parsons’ whereabouts, is urged to contact the Redding Police Department at (530) 225-4200 or SHASCOM at (530) 245-6540. Callers can refer to incident file number 21R080991 and can remain anonymous.
