Moreno Valley man, 55, ID’d after fatal San Jacinto collision

SAN JACINTO, Calif., — One person was killed and another was hospitalized after a two-vehicle collision in San Jacinto Sunday evening, Dec. 26.

The fatal crash happened at the intersection of Ramona Expressway and Sanderson Avenue and forced the hours-long closure of the intersection, according to officials.

Deputies from the San Jacinto Sheriff’s Station, Cal Fire – Riverside, and other emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene shortly after 9:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a major-injury traffic collision, Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Dawn Blair has since said of the fatal accident.

When officials arrived they found two wrecked vehicles with one occupant in each vehicle.

“The driver and single occupant of one of the involved vehicles succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by AMR,” Blair explained. “The driver and single occupant of the other involved vehicle was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.”

The Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office has since identified Kevin Tobin, 55, of Moreno Valley, as the man killed in the collision. A Coroner’s release indicated he was pronounced deceased at 9:45 p.m.

Based on the circumstances, members of the San Jacinto Sheriff Station’s Reconstruction Team responded to the location and assumed the investigation.

Alcohol and/or drug intoxication have not yet been ruled out as potential contributing factors in this collision, according to Blair who said the sheriff’s investigation is continuing.

Trevor’s assignments included Corrections, Patrol, DUI Enforcement, Boat and Personal Water-Craft based Lake Patrol, Off-Road Vehicle Enforcement, Problem Oriented Policing Team, and Personnel/Background Investigations. He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 30 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 18 grandchildren.
