Local resident, 21, dead after solo-vehicle Riverside crash

RIVERSIDE, Calif., — Authorities say a local resident was killed after losing control of a vehicle they were driving and crashing into a power pole in Riverside early Sunday morning, Feb. 6.

Another occupant fled from the wrecked vehicle after the crash, which happened on Van Buren Boulevard near Duncan Avenue. It was not known if the person who fled was injured in the crash and officials are continuing their effort to identify and interview the person regarding the fatal accident.

City of Riverside police and fire personnel were dispatched to the scene shortly before 5 a.m. after receiving reports of a single-vehicle traffic accident, Riverside PD has since said of the deadly crash.

When officials arrived, they located a black Kia sedan in a field just south of Duncan Avenue, where they found a 21-year-old Riverside resident who ultimately succumbed to their injuries and passed away at the scene.

The person’s name has not been released, pending notification of their family.

A second occupant of the vehicle, who remains unidentified, fled the scene prior to the arrival of officers. ⁣

Based on the circumstances, members of the Riverside Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.

During their subsequent investigation, MAIT officers determined the Kia had been traveling northbound on Van Buren Boulevard “when the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to collide with a power pole,” according to RPD.

Riverside PD’s investigation is active and ongoing, and officials have asked that anyone with information regarding this collision to call Riverside Police Traffic Detective R. McHugh at (951) 826-8720. Callers can remain anonymous.

Trevor’s assignments included Corrections, Patrol, DUI Enforcement, Boat and Personal Water-Craft based Lake Patrol, Off-Road Vehicle Enforcement, Problem Oriented Policing Team, and Personnel/Background Investigations. He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 30 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 18 grandchildren.
