City of Beaumont police officers and detectives began investigating the shooting, which happened in the 1400 block of East 6th Street shortly after 4 p.m.

During their initial investigation, the victim was uncooperative with officers and refused to provide any information or details to assist in the shooting investigation, leading officials to ask for the public’s help in identifying and locating the person responsible for the shooting.

As their investigation continued, officials developed leads and gathered information that led them to identifying Irvin Gutierrez, 33, of Beaumont, as the person they say fired the shot that injured the victim.

On Wednesday, Feb. 23, Beaumont police detectives arrested Gutierrez at his place of employment on Indian Drive in Perris without incident. They later served search warrants on Gutierrez’ home and vehicle to collect evidence related to the case.

After his arrest, Gutierrez was booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning on suspicion of felony assault with a firearm and driving on a suspended license.

Online jail records indicate Gutierrez remains in custody, where he is being held in lieu of $750,000 bail or bond and he is scheduled to be arraigned at the Riverside Hall of Justice Feb. 25.

City of Beaumont police officers and other emergency personnel were dispatched to the 1400 block of East 6th Street shortly after 4 p.m. after receiving the report of a gunshot heard in the area, Beaumont PD reported last night.

The 911 caller reported finding a man with a gunshot wound after hearing a loud “POP”, followed by the victim screaming for help.

When officials arrived, they found a man suffering from a single gunshot wound to the leg and began treating him for his injuries. He was then transported to an area hospital for further treatment according to officials, who described the man’s injuries as non-life-threatening.

Although officers attempted to get information from the victim, he was uncooperative and refused to provide any information or details to assist in the shooting investigation.

Beaumont PD investigators responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. They were ultimately able to determine that an altercation may have preceded the shooting; however, officials have not specified any further details as to what led to the violent encounter.
