Gun Discovered On Student At Canyon Springs High School-Student Arrested

There seems to be a lot of confusion regarding this incident taking place at CSHS today when there has reportedly been a separate and unrelated gun threat from Valley View High School from yesterday or today. On Friday, November 06, deputies arrested a juvenile who was in possession of a handgun on the Canyon Springs High School campus. The school is located at 23100 Cougar Canyon Drive, in the City of Moreno Valley.

This morning, deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Moreno Valley Police Station began to gather information regarding the student who was possibly armed while on the campus grounds.

As the investigation evolved, the student was identified. The student was quickly located on campus and was immediately detained.  During their investigation, School Resource Officers discovered a small-caliber handgun, which they recovered as evidence.

The unidentified 17-year-old student was taken into custody and removed from the campus without incident.

In a press release from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Sergeant Melvin Rasmussen wrote, “The Moreno Valley Police Department works closely with the Moreno Valley Unified School District (MVUSD) to assure the safety of all students.”

Continuing, Rasmussen wrote, “The Moreno Valley Police Department is vigilant in arresting violators of the law.  The Moreno Valley Police Department would like to remind all citizens to be aware of their surroundings at all times and report any suspicious activity, including any vehicles or persons by calling 911 for emergencies, or calling our dispatch center non-emergency line at (951) 247-8700.”
