Human Remains Discovered In Lake Matthews Area

According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, a body was discovered in a rural area west of Perris, in the unincorporated community of Lake Matthews on Tuesday, Nov. 23. The human remains were discovered at about 9:30 p.m. by a person travelling in the area, who called 911 to report what they found.

Deputies from the Riverside Sheriff’s Lake Elsinore station responded to the area of El Nido Road and Christmas Tree Lane regarding the reported human remains. Deputies located the deceased at about 10 p.m.

Based on evidence collected at the scene, the Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit responded to the location and assumed the investigation, with assistance from personnel assigned to the Lake Elsinore Station.

According to Deputy Michael Vasquez, of the Sheriff’s Media Information Bureau, sheriffs and coroner officials were trying to determine the victim’s cause of death. In a previous statement, Deputy Vasquez described the area as “very rural.”

Deputy Vasquez stated the identity of the deceased male is currently unknown and no further information will be released at this time.

In a press release from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Sgt. Wallace Clear wrote, “Anyone with information regarding this case is encouraged to call Investigator Corey at the Central Homicide Unit at (951) 955-2777 or Investigator Cornett at the Lake Elsinore Station at (951) 245-3300.” Caller can refer to incident file number F153270043 and can remain anonymous.
