MURRIETA – Murrieta Police have announced the arrest of Shannon Fosgett, 44, of Murrieta, following an allegation of inappropriate relation with a minor, male student.

Fosgett, a teacher at Murrieta Valley High School, allegedly began showing interest in the student over a year ago, which began with an hour of texting, according to a press release issued by the Murrieta Police Department.

“As the relationship grew, the minor and the teacher engaged in oral sex and ultimately sexual intercourse,”  the release reported.

The allegations were brought to the attention of MVHS administrators by other students on Nov. 30 and immediately reported to the Murrieta Police Department.

According to the Murrieta Valley Unified School District Administration, Fosgett resigned from her teaching position on Dec. 2.

Fosgett turned herself in to Murrieta P.D. detectives on Friday, Dec. 4 where she was placed under arrest for one count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor under 18 and two counts of oral copulation with a minor.

Fosgett was booked at the Southwest Detention Center, where she remains in custody in lieu of $40,000 bail. Arraignment is scheduled for Jan. 29.
