MURRIETA: Man arrested for attempted murder after violent domestic incident
Olonzo Benn was arrested after a violent domestic related incident sent a victim to the hospital.
MURRIETA – A man was arrested by Murrieta Police officers on Thursday March 31, after he allegedly caused numerous traumatic injuries to a woman he was involved in a relationship with. The nature of their relationship has not been released by police officials. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment, according to Murrieta Police Detective Sergeant Phil Gomez.
At about 2:30 a.m., officers responded to the 26000 block of Paddington Court in Murrieta, after receiving a 911 call reporting the violent incident that had occurred at a residence. The 911 caller told emergency communications dispatchers the victim was being held against her will in a bedroom at the residence.
Upon arrival, officers located a female victim and the male suspect inside a bedroom. Officers discovered the victim, who has not been identified, had multiple injuries to her face, arms, neck and torso, according to Gomez. Officers detained the male, whom they identified as Olonzo Frederick Benn, 28, of Moreno Valley.
Officers conducted an investigation, during which they determined Benn had violently beat the victim, causing numerous injuries. During their investigation officers determined that Benn had trapped the victim in the bedroom, beating her violently and refusing to allow her to use a phone to call 911. Officers also determined Benn had a warrant for his arrest.
After the completion of their initial investigation, officers arrested Benn for multiple felony domestic violence related charges, as well as his warrant, for driving under the influence.
The victim has since been released from the hospital.
A jail records search revealed Benn was booked for suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, terrorist threats, false imprisonment, battery resulting in great bodily injury and assault with great bodily injury; all felonies. Benn was also charged with preventing the victim from calling 911, a misdemeanor.
Benn was released from jail on April 5, after posting $100,000 bail. His arraignment is scheduled for April 18, at the Southwest Detention Center.
