JURUPA – A man who died after sustaining fatal injuries in a rollover accident has been identified by the coroner’s office.

The fatal accident ejected one of four people inside the truck, which was left all but unrecognizable. The accident occurred on Canal Street, east of La Rue Street, Monday, April 18. The rollover was reported minutes before midnight and the lengthy and thorough accident investigation lasted more than nine hours, according to a sheriff’s official.

Three of the occupants reportedly suffered non-life threatening injuries. The driver however, later succumbed to his injuries and he was pronounced dead at the hospital. It was not immediately known if the driver who died was the person who had been ejected from the truck.

The man who was killed in the accident was identified by the Riverside County Coroner’s office today as Jaime Hernandez-Romero, 27. His hometown has not yet been identified.

The coroner’s release listed his time of death as 12:39 a.m., approximately 45 minutes after the accident was reported.

When the rollover accident was first reported – at about 11:55 p.m., the previous evening – deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Jurupa Valley Police Station and other emergency first responders rushed to the scene.

Responding deputies arrived at the location “within minutes,” according to Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Conrad Cease. Deputies located the vehicle off the roadway, on the south side of Canal St. “The vehicle appeared to have rolled over, with at least one of the four occupants ejected from the vehicle,” Cease wrote in a press release about the fatal accident.

Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire personnel and AMR paramedics treated the injured passengers and provided life-saving procedures to the driver. Paramedics then transported all four occupants from the truck to two different local area hospitals for treatment.

Based on the severity of the accident, the Jurupa Valley Traffic Team responded to the scene and assumed control of the investigation.

Canal Street was reportedly closed until 9 a.m., while the Traffic Team conducted an investigation into the fatal rollover.

The investigation to determine the cause of this collision is ongoing, according to Conrad. However, he said, The deputies’ preliminary investigation “indicated that alcohol may be a factor in this collision.”
