Noli Indian School on Soboba Reservation locked down after shots fired nearby

SAN JACINTO – Noli Indian School on the Soboba Reservation was placed on Lock Down after sheriff’s officials received several 911 calls reporting multiple shots being fired by an unidentified man. The alleged shooter was last seen running with a black handgun not far from the school, according to a sheriff official.

Several witnesses described the alleged shooter as an adult male, wearing all black clothing, carrying a black handgun.

Riverside County emergency communications dispatchers received the first of many calls reporting shots fired in the area at 12:27 p.m. One caller from the Soboba Dept of Public Safety – located at 24099 Soboba Road – reported hearing men yelling at each other, followed by at least five to six rounds fired.

Another caller reported hearing six rounds fired and reported seeing a man wearing all black clothing running away from the area of the fire station – in the direction of the Noli Indian School, at 24335 Soboba Road. The school is located off the same street as the Soboba Public Safety building, where the first calls of shots fired were reported.

Another caller reported hearing at least two shots fired and saw a man matching the previously described subject running towards Noli Indian School, at which time the school immediately implemented their Lock Down protocols.

Deputies converged on the area and searched for the man described in the shooting; as well as a location of the shooting, any victims, and any recoverable evidence, the sheriff official explained.

“Shortly before 12:30 p.m., we received multiple reports of shots fired on the Soboba Reservation,” Riverside Sheriff’s Public Information Officer Deputy Michael Vasquez said about the ongoing shooting investigation and subsequent school Lock Down. Multiple deputies responded to the location and attempted to locate witnesses willing to speak about the shooting.

“Several witnesses reported seeing a male in the area with a handgun. However, deputies have not located any victims or the originally reported suspect,” Vasquez said. “The investigation is ongoing.”

After deputies could not locate the suspect or a crime scene, Noli School lifted their Lock Down, just after 1 p.m., about 40 minutes after the call was initially reported.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the San Jacinto Police Department at (951) 654-2702, or after hours at (951) 776-1099. Callers can remain anonymous.
