Stolen vehicle pursuit ends in fiery wreck in Perris, suspect arrested

RIVERSIDE/PERRIS – Officers and deputies pursued a stolen vehicle, Friday, May 27. Riverside PD’s Aviation Unit “Air-1” assisted in the pursuit, that eventually ended in a fiery wreck on Ramona Expressway, in Perris.
Riverside Police emergency communications dispatchers were notified by Galleria at Tyler security officers regarding a stolen vehicle they located at the mall, at about 6:48 p.m.
Security officers monitored the vehicle as it left the parking lot and drove onto Magnolia Avenue. The security officers did not follow the vehicle off the mall property; however they provided a direction of travel to dispatchers and responding officers.
Riverside Police officers converged on the the area and quickly located the vehicle being driven westbound on Magnolia Avenue from Tyler Street.

Officers attempted to conduct a vehicle stop on the stolen vehicle; however the driver failed to yield and officers initiated a pursuit.
The pursuit made its way southbound on La Sierra to Cajalco Expressway where it continued westbound towards Perris at a high-rate of speed, according to William Hayes of Epicenter News, who monitored the pursuit.
During the dangerous, high-speed pursuit, the driver of the vehicle drove without regard for the safety of citizens or pursuing officers. Officers reportedly observed the driver of the stolen car passing vehicles on the wrong side of the road and running numerous red lights and posted stop signs.
When the chase became too dangerous to continue pursuing, Riverside Police conducted a breakaway procedure and stopped pursuing the vehicle, while the Riverside PD’s Aviation Unit, “Air 1” continued tracking the fleeing vehicle from high above.

As Air-1 aviation personnel continued relaying information regarding the fleeing vehicle, deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Perris Station took over the pursuit.
As the pursuit continued into the Perris area, deputies chased the stolen car, until the driver of the Honda lost control of his car on Ramona Expressway, jumped a center median and crashed in a drainage ditch east of Ramona Expressway near Bradly Road in the City of Perris.
When the vehicle crashed into the drainage ditch, it burst into flames. The driver and passenger attempted to flee from the destroyed car; however both were quickly apprehended and taken into custody.

Both the male driver and female passenger were detained for further investigation.
The alleged suspect and his female passenger have not yet been identified.
As of this report, it was unknown if the driver or passenger were arrested.

Here we go again.
These two obviously had no concern for anyone else on the road, so let them suffer through any pain they received from their stupid and senseless act in prison.
They do not deserve to be taken care of at the hospital. THey made their bed, let them lie in it.
