Officials investigating report of “possible human remains” northeast of Soboba Reservation

HEMET – As of Monday, June 13, Riverside County Sheriff’s officials are still releasing very few details, other than to confirm sheriff’s personnel are investigating what Riverside Sheriff’s Public Information Officer Armando Munoz originally described on June 11 as a “suspicious circumstances call.”

The ongoing investigation that began June 11, at about 2 p.m., is happening in a rugged, mountainous area near Indian Creek Road and Indian Creek Truck Trail, in an unincorporated area northeast of the Soboba Indian Reservation.

Deputies, investigators and other unspecified officials from the sheriff’s Hemet Station and other special teams have now spent the last three days investigating what Munoz previously described as “possible – but unconfirmed – human remains” reported to be in the area.

“Due to darkness and the difficult terrain of the area, officials were forced to suspend their investigation until tomorrow,” Munoz explained at the time. The investigation was expected to resume Sunday, June 12, Munoz said.

On Monday, June 13, Riverside Sheriff’s Public Information Officer Deputy Michael Vasquez said no new information was available and that the investigation was active and ongoing. Vasquez was unable to provide any timeframe when any new information might be made available.

This is a developing story. Updates will be added as they become available.

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this report misidentified the area where this investigation is being conducted; listing the investigation as occurring in an unincorporated area of Aguanga. This was an error on my part and should in no way reflect the sheriff’s department.
