HEMET – Two Hemet residents were arrested after Hemet Police officials served a search warrant in the 400 block of Vernal Lane, in Hemet. Members of the Hemet Police Department served the warrant at about 6:30 pm, Thursday, June, 10, according to police officials.

Luis Braulio Ojeda, 29, and Desiree Monique Escalante, 31, both of Hemet, were arrested Thursday evening after the service of a search warrant uncovered several items of confirmed stolen property taken in multiple burglaries from throughout the Hemet and San Jacinto Valley. Among the items recovered were two loaded firearms from a burglary committed in Hemet June 8th and a loaded firearm from a burglary committed in an unincorporated area of Hemet in 2014.

The two were booked on a combined total of 19 felonies and five misdemeanors.

During a thorough investigation, Hemet Police detectives developed information that stolen property was being stored at the Vernal Lane residence and sought a search warrant Thursday afternoon.

After officers determined that Ojeda and Escalante were linked to the property they arrested the pair. They couple was later booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility, in Banning.

A jail records search revealed Ojeda was booked on suspicion of possession of stolen property, being a felon in possession of a firearm, committing a felony while out on bail or early release and a prior state prison enhancement. He was released the following day after posting $40,000 bail. Ojeda is scheduled to be arraigned July 25 at an unspecified court.

Escalante was booked on suspicion of 15 felonies, including committing a felony while out on bail or early release, possession of stolen property, being a felon in possession of a firearm, multiple counts of false impersonation, multiple prior state prison enhancements, taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent, possession of a controlled substance, and multiple other charges.

Escalante remains jailed in lieu of $100,000 bail. She is scheduled to be arraigned at an unspecified court, June 30.

This investigation is still ongoing, according to police officials.
