ORIGINAL STORY

HEMET – Hemet Police officers and citizens alike are reeling from a second homicide committed in the city within a 24 hour period. The first homicide involved a hit and run that left a 17-year-old juvenile dead. The second incident involved a man who was shot to death in the 1300 block of Alabaster Avenue. A third homicide was committed within the same 24 hour period in the Valle Vista area.

The Hemet Police Dispatch Center began receiving 911 calls regarding shots fired in the neighborhood Tuesday, July 19, at about 2:00 a.m. The neighborhood where the shooting happened is located east of Warran Road and south of W. Esplanade Avenue. The location where the victim was shot is just one block from Stoney Mountain Park.

Multiple 911 callers told dispatchers there were two subjects involved in an altercation outside a residence and that they then heard several shots fired.

Hemet Police officers, Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies, California Highway Patrol officers and other emergency first responders rushed to the location of the fatal shooting and located a 35-year-old male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the abdomen. Officers provided medical aid to the victim until paramedics arrived.

Paramedics transported the victim to a local area hospital. In spite of their efforts, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by hospital staff.

The victim’s identity has not been released by officials, pending notification of his family.

Officers and deputies conducted a thorough search for the suspect with assistance from Riverside County Sheriff’s Aviation Unit.
