22-year-old killed in Jurupa Valley hit and run

JURUPA VALLEY – A 22-year-old man was struck and killed in a hit and run traffic collision while riding his bicycle Tuesday, Sept. 6. The deadly incident happened on Limonite Avenue near Lucretia Avenue in Jurupa Valley at about 2:05 a.m., according to Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Ray Ricken.

Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Jurupa Valley Police Station and other emergency first responders rushed to the reported traffic collision after someone called 911 to report the accident.

Deputies and Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire personnel arrived on scene within minutes and located a male in the roadway. The victim had already succumbed to his injuries and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Coroner’s officials later identified Forrest Holmes, 22, of Jurupa Valley as the victim of the fatal hit and run. The coroner’s release listed Holmes’ time of injury as 2:05 a.m. His time of death was listed as 2:17 a.m. The release listed Holmes’ location of death as Limonite Avenue, about one half mile west of Lucretia Avenue.

Deputies and other sheriff’s officials from the Jurupa Valley Station Traffic Team responded to the location to conduct an accident investigation.

The deputies’ investigation determined that Holmes was riding his bicycle westbound on Limonite Avenue when he was struck from behind by an unknown vehicle. The vehicle did not stop to render aid or check on Holmes’ status and immediately fled the area.

During their investigation, Limonite Avenue between Lucretia and Wineville Avenues was closed for about seven hours.
