Two arrested for weapons charges after Riverside nightclub brawl

RIVERSIDE – An early morning fight broke out Monday, Sept. 12 in the parking lot of the Sevilla Night Club located in the 3200 Block of Mission Inn Avenue in Riverside.

During the fight, one man pulled out a handgun, leading to calls of shots fired at the club. Two men were arrested at the conclusion of an investigation into the violent incident.

Riverside Police officers responded to the fight call at the club at about 2 a.m.

While officers were heading to the location, City of Riverside emergency dispatchers received additional information that there was a man who had pulled out a gun and that shots had possible been fired.

When officers arrived they detained several groups of people.

During their investigation, officers learned the incident begin as a physical confrontation between two large groups of individuals.

“As security personnel from the nightclub went to break up the fight, an individual pulled a handgun from his waistband area,” an official press release from the department explained. “A security guard saw the gun and immediately kicked it out of the subject’s hands. A different subject picked up the gun and fled on foot.”

Through their investigation and interviews with witnesses, officer learned about a specific subject and two vehicles that were identified as being involved in the physical altercation.

During a search of the two vehicles, officers located a loaded handgun inside one of the vehicles and a loaded assault-style rifle in the other car.

The officers were unable to locate any shell casings or victims to substantiate the originally reported shooting.

At the conclusion of their investigation, officers arrested two subjects, identified as Daniel Gonzales, 24, of Hemet and Eric Bernard Bell Jr., 19, of Beaumont. Both Gonzales and Bell were arrested and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center for firearm related offenses.

A jail record search revealed Gonzales was booked on suspicion of possessing an assault weapon and possession of high-capacity magazines. He is being held in lieu of $50,000 and is scheduled to be seen at the Riverside Hall of Justice Sept. 14.

Bell was arrested on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm and felon in possession of ammunition. He was released later the same day when he posted $10,000 bail. He is scheduled to be seen at the Riverside Hall of Justice Oct. 8.
