EAST HEMET: Pedestrian killed while crossing dark street

EAST HEMET – A pedestrian was fatally struck by a pickup truck in the area of E. Highway 74 just east of Lincoln Avenue Saturday, Oct. 8. The deadly, early morning accident was reported right at midnight in the unincorporated area of East Hemet.

The pedestrian was crossing E. Highway 74 outside of an established cross walk when she was struck by a pickup truck. The driver of the truck remained at the scene and was cooperating with law enforcement officers.

California Highway Patrol officers, deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Hemet/Valle Vista Station, Cal Fire/Riverside County firefighters, and American Medical Response emergency medical technicians rushed to the scene of the accident.

Six firefighters from two engine companies arrived at the location and immediately determined the victim had already succumbed to their injuries.

The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Public Information Officer Jody Hagemann.

The victim has not been identified pending notification of the persons family.

One CHP officer at the scene of the accident said he believed the victim was intoxicated at the time of the fatal collision. However, he wasn’t able to make an official determination, pending toxicology reports.

Trevor Montgomery spent 10 years in the U.S. Army as an Orthopedic Specialist before joining the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department in 1998. He was medically retired after losing his leg in an off-duty accident.

During his time with the sheriff’s department, Trevor worked at several different stations, including the Robert Presley Detention Center, the Southwest Station in Temecula, the Hemet Station, and the Lake Elsinore Station, along with many other locations.

Trevor’s assignments included Corrections, Patrol, DUI Enforcement, Boat and Personal Water-Craft based Lake Patrol, Off-Road Vehicle Enforcement, Problem Oriented Policing Team, Personnel and Background Investigations and he finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator.

Trevor has been married for more than 26 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and has 13 children and 12 – soon to be 13 – grandchildren.
