EAST HEMET – A man was fatally shot Thursday, Oct. 13, in the 41700 block of Marine Drive, in the unincorporated community of East Hemet.

A short time after the deadly shooting the suspect in the fatal incident turned himself in to authorities, according to Riverside County Sheriff’s officials.

After an investigation, sheriff’s officials arrested Marquis Anthony-Ray Dorsey 23, of Hemet, as the suspected shooter in the incident. He was later booked into the Southwest Detention Center.

Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Hemet/Valle Vista Station responded to reports of of gunfire with at least one person injured on the street at 7:57 p.m.

Deputies arrived within minutes and found a victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, according to Sergeant Raymond Huskey. Witnesses at the scene of the fatal shooting stated the victim was shot in the face or head.

Paramedics treated the victim at the scene before they transported him by ambulance to a local hospital. The man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by hospital staff. He has not been identified, pending notification of his family.

After the shooting and initial investigation, investigators from the Hemet Sheriff’s Station and the Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit responded and assumed the investigation.

Investigators identified Dorsey as the alleged shooting suspect in the deadly encounter.

“Shortly thereafter, Dorsey walked into the Hemet Police Department and surrendered to authorities,” Huskey wrote in a press release about the incident and subsequent arrest. After he turned himself in to City of Hemet police officials, Dorsey was turned over to sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit investigators for further questioning.

A jail record search revealed Dorsey was booked on one count of suspicion of murder. He is being held in lieu of one million dollars bail and is scheduled to be seen at an unspecified court Oct. 18.
