UPDATED: SAN JACINTO: Victim killed in Soboba Road wreck ID’d

Coroner’s officials have identified the victim killed in last Wednesday’s two-vehicle traffic collision as Humberto Avila Olvera, 55 of Cathedral City. The deadly collision happened on Soboba Road, 1.3 miles west of Chabela Drive in San Jacinto. According to a coroner’s release, the wreck occurred at 5:05 p.m. Olvera succumbed was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:17 p.m.

CHP officials are still conducting an investigation into the deadly wreck.

SAN JACINTO – One motorist was killed and a second was injured in a two-car traffic collision Wednesday, Nov. 9. The deadly accident happened along a sweeping curve in the 1000 block of Soboba Road just outside San Jacinto, north of a driving range at the Country Club at Soboba Springs. The location is west of Lake Park Drive and east of N. State Street.

The name of the driver killed in the collision has not been released, pending identification and notification of the victim’s family.

Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Hemet and San Jacinto Stations and other emergency first responders were dispatched to the traffic collision after emergency dispatchers received several 911 calls from other motorists and witnesses at 4:58 p.m. CHP officers were later summoned to the scene to conduct an accident investigation.

10 firefighters from three engine companies responded to the scene of the fatal accident, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Public Information Officer April Newman. They were assisted by Soboba Fire personnel, American Medical Response medics, and coroner’s officials.

The first deputy arrived at the scene three minutes after the call was dispatched. He reported finding a two-vehicle traffic collision with one victim trapped in each vehicle. One victim had sustained major traumatic injuries. The other victim sustain minor injuries. Both victims were trapped inside their vehicles, one of which had smashed into a tree and was smoking.

When they arrived, firefighters extricated the surviving victim from their vehicle. The victim was transported by ground ambulance to an area hospital with minor injuries, Newman explain in a press release. The driver of the second vehicle succumbed to their injuries while still trapped inside their vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fire resources were expected to remain at the accident scene for an extended amount of time due to extensive extrication required to recover the deceased victim from their destroyed vehicle.

CHP officers are conducting an investigation into the fatal accident. Their investigation is ongoing.

It was not yet known if alcohol or drug intoxication were contributing factors in the accident, pending toxicology results from both drivers.
