MECCA: Two dead, 1 identified, after I-10 big-rig rollover

MECCA – Two occupants from a tractor-trailer big-rig were killed when their truck overturned Saturday, Dec. 3. The deadly accident happened on westbound Interstate 10 near mile post 10-73, according to a Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department press release. The fatal rollover accident occurred at 5:02 a.m.

Coroner’s officials later identified one of the victims killed in the accident as Raleigh Guillory, 42, of Marksville, Louisiana. His time of death was listed as 5:50 a.m. According to a coroner’s release the exact location of the rollover accident was on westbound I-10 near Cactus Wash Bridge.

The second victim has only been identified as 49-year-old male from Gulfport, Mississippi. His name has been withheld pending notification of his family.

17 firefighters from two engine companies and one truck company responded to the deadly accident, according to Cal Fire Riverside County Fire spokeswoman Jody Hagemann.

They were assisted by Riverside County Fire Department’s Hazardous Materials Team and the department’s Hazardous Materials Support Unit “to mitigate and remove a diesel fuel spill from one of the saddle tanks on the big rig,” Hagemann explained. Riverside County Environmental Health also responded to the accident scene due to the fuel spill.

Despite the efforts of firefighter/paramedics, both men succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident resulted in fatal injuries to both occupants of the big rig,” Hagemann said.

CHP officials are investigating the cause of the accident.
