PALM DESERT: Calexico resident arrested after hit and run

PALM DESERT – Deputies arrested a Calexico woman after she smashed into a person driving a golf cart and fled the scene Monday, Nov. 28. The hit and run collision happened on Country Club Drive just west of Portola Avenue in Palm Desert.

After the collision the driver of the SUV involved in the hit and run, later identified as Guadalupe De La Paz, 44 of Calexico, fled from the scene of the accident, according to Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Koser.

Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Palm Desert Police station responded to citizen’s 911 calls reporting the hit and run traffic collision about 10 p.m.

During their initial investigation deputies determined that an SUV struck a golf cart causing injury to the driver of the golf cart. The victim was transported to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries.

Based on the circumstances, the Palm Desert Traffic Unit responded and assumed the investigation.

During the course of their investigation, deputies identified De La Paz as the driver who had failed to stop or render aid to the victim she had crashed into. Deputies tracked De La Paz to a business located on County Club Drive near Vista Del Sol, in the city of Rancho Mirage, where they arrested her.

De La Paz was taken to a local area hospital as a precaution before authorities booked her into the Riverside County Jail in Indio. She was booked on suspicion of felony hit and run.
