HEMET – At least one person is believed to have sustained major injuries in a solo-vehicle, rollover traffic accident Friday, Dec. 16. The accident happened about 6:35 p.m., in the area of Mountain Avenue and N. Soboba Street in Hemet.

The call was initially dispatched as a two-vehicle accident, however later 911 calls indicated there was only one vehicle involved. Callers also initially reported multiple victims were believed injured in the accident, however it was later determined there was only one occupant inside the truck at the time of the accident.

Hemet and San Jacinto police officers, Hemet Fire Department, and AMR medics responded to the major-injury, rollover traffic accident.

Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s San Jacinto Police station were the first to arrive at the scene of the accident. Other deputies, Hemet police officers, and firefighter/paramedics began arriving moments later.

Emergency first responders reported finding a light-colored Nissan pickup truck that had rolled over – possibly several times – and ended up in a field adjacent to a sweeping curve in the roadway on Mountain Avenue, also known as Ramona Expressway.

The driver of the pickup truck was trapped inside the vehicle and had sustained major head injuries, according to on-scene fire and police personnel.

Based on the victim’s injuries, firefighter/paramedics requested Mercy Air to respond to the scene of the accident. It was not immediately known if anyone was transported by Mercy Air ambulance.

Deputies requested Riverside County’s Aviation Unit to the scene to search for additional possible victims ejected from the overturned pickup truck. While the helicopter searched from overhead, sheriff’s and police officials could be seen walking through the field with flashlights, searching for additional victims. The Aviation Unit did not find any unaccounted victims while searching the field from above.

The cause of the accident has not yet been determined.
