HEMET – A pedestrian attempting to legally cross Florida Avenue in an established cross walk was struck by a hit and run driver Thursday, Jan. 5. The vehicle versus pedestrian hit and run happened at the intersection of Florida and Palm Avenues about 7:30 p.m.

City of Hemet Police and Fire Departments and AMR medics were dispatched to the scene of the hit and run after several citizens called 911 to report the incident. Callers reported the pedestrian was injured and was still down in the roadway.

The victim, who has not been identified but was described as a white male adult, was reportedly hit by a car that fled eastbound on Florida Avenue after the accident.

The female driver of the car, who has not yet been located or identified, did not stop to render aid to the victim or call 911 to report the incident.

Another motorist in a white pickup truck did stop; however, and provided aid and comfort to the victim until emergency first responders arrived.

That witness and several others were able to provide a description of the vehicle that struck the pedestrian. She is being sought by police officials.

Hemet firefighter/paramedics treated the victim at the scene before AMR medics transported the man to Hemet Valley Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. The victim reportedly had complaints of pain to his left shoulder and arm.

A preliminary investigation revealed the pedestrian was crossing the street legally, inside an established cross walk at the intersection when he was struck by the hit and run driver. Officers are still working to identify the driver who fled the scene of the collision.

Anyone with information regarding this incident or who witnessed the hit and run is encouraged to contact Hemet police officials at (951) 765-2400. Callers can remain anonymous.
