The incident began about 8:15 p.m., when officers responded to 911 calls from citizens reporting a man threatening people with a rifle at the location.

Callers told City of Riverside emergency dispatchers the man, who was later identified as Octavio Carrillo, 24, of Riverside, was not known to the callers and had never been seen in the neighborhood before. Callers advised Carrillo was breaking into and vandalizing several mail boxes.

When neighbors confronted Carrillo, he allegedly made several threats towards them, saying that he was going to get a rifle and shoot them.

Carrillo then ran into a house and returned with what appeared to be a rifle and started running towards neighbors, according to police officials.

When the officers arrived Carrillo was already back inside the house he had retrieved the rifle from.

When Carrillo saw the officers arrive, he reportedly began breaking out windows at the home while yelling at the officers to shoot him.

Officers made several announcements for Carrillo to exit the residence as they began to establish a perimeter around the home. Carrillo eventually complied and was safely taken into custody.

After conducting an investigation into the incident and interviewing Carrillo and the witnesses, officers arrested Carrillo. He was then booked into jail for felony vandalism, making criminal threats, and violation of probation.

An online jail records search revealed Carrillo is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned at the Riverside Hall of Justice Jan 6.
