City of Hemet Fire and Police officials responded to the accident shortly after 2:30 p.m., after several citizens called 911 to report the injury collision between a black Lexus and a red Kia Sportage.

When they arrived, officials found two vehicles with moderate damage and at least two victims requiring medical treatment.

The damaged vehicles were partially blocking the roadway, and all westbound lanes of traffic were initially closed, while firefighter/paramedics treated the injured.

One westbound lane of Florida Avenue was soon re-opened to allow motorists to move slowly past the scene of the accident.

The vehicles were towed from the scene as firefighters worked to clean up spilled fuel and other vehicle fluids.

The roadway was reopened to through traffic about 45 minutes after the accident happened.
