LA QUINTA: Woman with drugs, paraphernalia, arrested after DUI hit and run

LA QUINTA – Sheriff’s officials arrested a woman who was allegedly involved in a DUI-related hit and run traffic collision Friday, March 24. The hit and run happened on Washington Street and Ave. 47 in La Quinta.

Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s La Quinta Police Station responded to reports of a hit and run traffic collision about 5:10 p.m.

Kelly Campbell was arrested for DUI, hit and run and other charges.

During their investigation, deputies determined the hit and run driver, who authorities later identified as Kelly Shannon Campbell, 45, of Seal Beach, was traveling northbound on Washington Street when she collided with another vehicle near Ave. 47, Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Ben Ramirez explained in a written press release after the incident and arrest.

Campbell continued driving, without stopping to check on the occupants of the other vehicle or report the collision.

A Traffic Enforcement Officer responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.

While the traffic officer was investigating the hit and run, members of La Quinta PD’s Special Enforcement Team located Campbell driving in the area of Washington Street and Hwy. 111.

SET deputies initiated a traffic stop, at which time Campbell was detained without further incident.

Investigating deputies determined Campbell was operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of narcotics. They also found Campbell was in possession of heroin and prescription narcotics.

Based on their investigation, deputies arrested Campbell. She was booked at the Riverside County Jail in Indio on suspicion of DUI, hit and run and possession of narcotics and narcotics-related paraphernalia, according to Ramirez.

There were no reported injuries in the collision.

An online jail records search revealed Campbell was cited and released from the Indio Jail within hours of her arrest. She is scheduled to be arraigned at the Indio Larson Justice Center June 8.
