RIVERSIDE: No identification made yet after man’s body found behind gym

Officials discuss the discovery of a man’s body

RIVERSIDE — Coroner’s officials are still working to identify a man who was found murdered behind a Riverside business, Monday, July 31. The man’s lifeless body was found near a pair of railroad tracks behind an LA Fitness gymnasium. The gym is located at a business complex in the 3400 block of Arlington Avenue. 

As of Thursday, Aug. 3, coroner’s officials had not identified the victim.

Riverside Police and Fire personnel were dispatched to the location at 10:48 a.m., after an unidentified worker reportedly found the victim’s body.

When officers and other officials arrived at the location the 911 caller directed them to where he had found the victim’s body. He was described at the time by officials as either a White or Hispanic, adult male. The unidentified man appeared to be transient, according to an official at the scene.

Detectives from the department’s Robbery – Homicide Unit and personnel from the department’s Forensics Unit responded and assumed the investigation. They were assisted by Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner officials.

“The identity of the deceased and cause of death is pending the Coroner’s investigation,” Riverside police officials wrote in a social media release after the man’s body was found. According to the release, officials are investigating the incident as a homicide.

The investigation into the man’s death is active and ongoing.
