MORENO VALLEY: 64-year-old pedestrian killed crossing street

MORENO VALLEY — A 64-year-old pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle Monday, Aug. 7. The deadly accident happened at the intersection of Ironwood Avenue and Tuscola Street in Moreno Valley, according to sheriff’s officials.

Coroner’s officials later identified Moreno Valley resident, John Rose, as the victim killed in the accident. A release from Coroner’s officials indicated Rose died at Riverside University Health System – Medical Center at 8:55 p.m., about forty minutes after he was hit by a car while crossing the street.

Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Moreno Valley Police Station responded to the intersection about 8:17 p.m., after emergency dispatchers  received reports of a major-injury traffic collision involving a pedestrian, Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant William Stens explained in a written press release after the collision.

Deputies and other emergency first responders arrived within two minutes of the dispatched call and located the pedestrian down in the roadway.  

The pedestrian suffered “multiple, traumatic injuries” and AMR medics transported the victim to a local hospital, said Stens. Despite life-saving efforts, Rose succumbed to his injuries and he was pronounced dead by hospital staff.

Based on the circumstances, members of Moreno Valley PD’s Traffic Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and assumed the investigation into the cause of the deadly collision; however Stens explained, “It does not appear alcohol or drugs contributed to this collision.”

Officials called for the temporary closure of all lanes on Ironwood Avenue while they investigated the accident. The road remained closed for several hours until officials concluded their initial investigation.
