REDDING: Man involved in group beating of lone man stabbed outside sports bar

REDDING — A man who officials say was participating in the group beating of a lone man was hospitalized last night, after being stabbed during the violent altercation. The late-night incident happened Wednesday, Sept. 13, in the Cobblestone Court strip mall parking lot, outside Allstars Sports Bar at 200 Hartnell Avenue in Redding.

Redding police officers first learned of the incident about 11:30 p.m., when they were summoned to Mercy Medical Center by medical staff reporting that a stabbing victim had been brought into the hospital’s emergency room for treatment.

When officers arrived, they interviewed the stabbing victim, identified as A. Saephan, 22, of Redding. During their investigation, officers learned the man had been at the sports bar with “several of his friends” when the stabbing happened, Redding Police Sergeant Aaron Maready explained in a written press release several hours after the incident.

Officers interviewed the stabbing reported victim at the hospital, while other officers responded to the bar to search for and interview potential witnesses.

Witnesses at the bar told investigating officers that a fight broke out “between Saephan and an unknown, white male,” said Maready, who explained that as the two men fought, several of Saephan’s friends “joined him in fighting the one male.”

Witnesses stated as the group was fighting in the parking lot, “the lone male suddenly got away from the group of men and ran off,” said Maready. “It was at this point Saephan realized he had been stabbed once in the abdomen.”

As of 4 a.m., this morning, Saephan was still undergoing surgery but his prognosis was considered good, according to Maready.

Officials described the alleged suspect in the stabbing as a White male, about 24 to 25-years-old, and was last seen wearing a white t-shirt. Officials described the man’s hair as medium length and said he had tattoos on both his arms.

Anyone with information regarding this incident or who witnessed the fight or stabbing is encouraged to contact the Redding Police Department at (530) 225-4200. Callers can refer to incident file number 17-67818 and can remain anonymous.
