WILDOMAR: Local man identified after fatal ATV accident in residential neighborhood

WILDOMAR — A Wildomar resident died after he crashed an off-road, all-terrain vehicle into a parked vehicle while riding on a residential city street, Tuesday evening, Sept. 12. The fatal accident happened on the 35000 block of Pashal Place near Momat Avenue in Wildomar. The newer, tree-lined neighborhood is south of Baxter Road and west of Interstate 15.

Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner’s later identified Ivan Gomez, 25, of Wildomar as the man killed in the crash. A coroner’s release indicated Gomez was injured at 7:30 p.m. and he was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident at 7:38 p.m.

City of Wildomar Sheriff and Fire officials were dispatched to the scene of the collision about 7:38 p.m., Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Nathan Kaas explained in a written press release.

Cal Fire/Riverside County firefighters quickly arrived at the scene and “began performing life-saving measures,” said Kass. Sheriff’s and other officials arrived shortly afterwards. Despite their efforts, Gomez succumbed to his injuries and paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene of the accident.

Based on the circumstances, members of the Lake Elsinore Police Department’s Traffic Team responded to the location and assumed the investigation into the collision.

Officials did not specify if Gomez was riding the off-road ATV in a reckless manner or if the victim had been wearing a helmet or other protective riding gear and equipment when the accident happened.

“It is unknown if the driver was under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol at the time of the collision,” said Kaas. Toxicology results will later be used to determine if Gomez was under the influence at the time of the crash.

Anyone with additional information about this investigation or who witnessed the deadly crash is encouraged to contact Officer Perry Willow of the Lake Elsinore Police Department Traffic Team at (951) 245-3300, or after hours at (951) 776-1099. Callers can refer to incident file number WI172550039 and can remain anonymous. Citizens may also submit a tip using the Sheriff’s CrimeTips online form.
