TEMECULA: Grand re-opening set for Butterfield Stage Park’s new “Nature’s Tree House” themed playground

TEMECULA – Excitement is growing as City of Temecula officials prepare to unveil the first of several new “themed playgrounds,” which are being constructed at several different parks throughout the city. Funding for the parks new designs is primarily from Measure S funds, generated by a 1-cent sales tax increase voters approved last year.

City officials will be holding a grand re-opening and ribbon cutting ceremony Wednesday, Nov. 1.

Butterfield Stage Park will be the first park to officially be re-designed and re-opened. The park is located at 33654 De Portola Road.

The theme for the newly designed and themed playground is “Nature’s Tree House” and will feature a “nature inspired tree house hide-away,” according to city officials.

The City of Temecula will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the park Wednesday, Nov. 1.

Temecula’s mayor, Maryann Edwards, will host the unveiling ceremony at 10 a.m.

During the ceremony, she will be welcoming about one hundred second grade students from neighboring Crowne Hill Elementary School. The 7 and 8-year-olds will be among the first children to explore and enjoy the new playground.

With funding from Measure S the City is able to renovate many of its existing parks and playgrounds to ensure they are “safe, up to date, and creatively designed for the enjoyment of its youngest citizens for years to come,” officials explained in a recent press release.

City officials placed great importance replacing older playgrounds with “creatively designed themes to enhance and enrich young imaginations for generations to come,” said officials.

Nicolas Road Park’s “Pirate Ship Party” themed playground is one of several newly designed playgrounds the City plans on opening with funds generated from voter approved Measure S.

“Many of the City’s older playgrounds have reached their life expectancy and we are able to update them thanks mainly to Measure S funding,” Mayor Maryann Edwards recently explained.

“The City is also reconstructing and expanding the snack bar at Ronald Reagan Sports Park and replacing the pool deck and plaster at the Community Recreation Center,” Edwards continued.

Among other improvements using Measure S funds, the City plans on renovating ten public restrooms throughout the city. Measure S funding also provided for the recent replacement of the synthetic turf at all four soccer fields at Patricia Birdsall Sports Park.

Additional themed playgrounds that will be completed over the next few months include Nicolas Road Park’s “Pirate Ship Party,” Vail Ranch Park’s “Old Temecula,” Sunset Park’s “Music at Sunset” and Veteran’s Park’s “Fighter Jet.”

City officials also plan on updating and renovating about one dozen other parks throughout the city over the next several years.

Dates for the other parks to be re-designed have not yet been announced.
